Rosebud American Kitchen & Bar
Restaurant $$
Description
THEN & NOW Located in the former home of the historic Rosebud Diner, the new restaurant acknowledges the site's storied past while providing a simple, family-friendly neighborhood spot for the present. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1999, the landmark location has been a fixture in Davis Square since 1939 with the opening of Jaunty Jack, which billed itself as a "modern snack bar open 24/7." In 1941, new ownership placed a dining car manufactured by the local Worcester Lunch Car Company in front of the building and renamed it Rosebud Diner, a relaxed restaurant serving a melting pot of home-style cooking. Purchased by the Nichols family in 1958, the neighborhood legend remained open under family ownership until 2013.
